Australian Customs and Border Protection Service rejects mistreatment allegations
The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service (ACBPS) strongly supports the statement made by the Chief of Defence Force today rejecting mistreatment allegations made against personnel conducting border protection operations.
Border Protection Command is a multi-agency task force which utilises maritime and aerial assets from both ACBPS and Defence in conducting civil maritime operations, including border protection operations.
“The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service men and women working on the ships and aircraft operated by Border Protection Command work in a dynamic and challenging environment. They are fully trained and conduct themselves with the highest level of integrity, professionalism, dedication and respect,” said the acting CEO of ACBPS, Mr. Roman Quaedvlieg.
“The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service has worked in close partnership with the Royal Australian Navy for more than 40 years, and they work side-by-side in the Border Protection Command with courage and compassion while protecting our borders,” he said.
“Allegations that Illegal Maritime Arrivals have been treated inhumanely are false and inconsistent with the professionalism, culture and practices of any Australian government authority, including the Border Protection Command.
“Our officers should be commended for the manner in which they undertake their duties in a dynamic and challenging environment.”
